APARAJITA VHAI IFAT
Kala Aparajita is a development project to strengthen the self help initiatives of low income artisan groups by promoting the crafts produced by them. The concept of Kala Aparajita emerged from VHAI’s work with artisans in its post disaster programme (Orissa and Gujarat) and the grassroot projects all over India. The beauty and skill of the products produced by these artisans were enthralling. But  we realized their constraintsin marketing and developing their products due to lack of adequate information, working capital and specialized design inputs, and compounding these factors was the dependence on middlemen who pay meager rates and focus on quantity rather than quality.

From this experience was felt the need for a support system that would promote the traditional crafts and empower the artisans. More significantlyit would help incorporate the market needs and taste into the development of the products while simultaneously influencing market trends towards natural and indigenious material.
